Enzyme Deficiencies

The human genome comprises more than 100,000 genes and is susceptible to mutation at each locus. A mutation can result in an interruption in the DNA sequence coding for an enzyme and this can result in the enzyme being deficient and not proceeding at the proper rate. These enzyme deficiencies can result in diseases that are due to an accumulation of un-metabolised precursors such as oligosaccharides.
